The accident that should never have occured

6 hours back, about 6.30pm, I was cycling to the petrol kiosk because of a flat tire. I saw a car stop by the road near where I last stop before crossing a main road. The driver came out of the car and look under his car. I knew one thing for sure : he hit an innocent kitten in a hit and run style accident.

Funnily to him, even though he failed to avoid the kitten, he assumed that the kitten escape. I heard several "MEOW"s of the cat. When I look from the opposite side of the road, I could see the cat stuck underneath the car, struggling to get out whilst stuck with half it's body inside while the other half outside.

The details followed, the upper half, which is the hind legs, was stuck underneath the car. While the 2 front legs and the head is visible. The cat was struggling but it's 2 legs (front) were off reach from the ground.

The amazing thing is that the car driver failed to see that the cat was struggling because he saw at the wrong angle while I see the cat from another perspective, while both of us can agree with 1 thing : the cat meowing away (for help).

The driver felt he was wasting his time. As he was about the drove his car away, I signal to him with 1 finger pointing up (the 2nd finger), to call up for attention. Then i point that finger under his car. He shuddered off and drive his car away. I gave chased but failed because of the flat tire. I watched helplessly as the cat was dragged mercilessly on and off the road. It clearly gave me a traumatic experience for the following 3 hours after every time I hear a cat meowing.

I pray that the guy understood and heed my warning that the cat was underneath or else he will both have a hard time removing the dead cat and dead smell from his car. So the moral from this incident is that a cat is a living thing. It does not have 9 lives (that was just an old expression), It has only 1 life that we humans too have. So, we should not harm living creatures as if God will replenish every time we kill one.
